At More House School, every student benefits from an annual review of their progress, whether he holds an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) or not. These reviews provide a structured opportunity for parents, staff, and students to reflect on achievements, review current support, and set meaningful goals for the year ahead.
For students with an EHCP, this review meets statutory requirements and helps ensure that provision remains appropriate to their needs. Our approach places the student’s voice at the centre of the process and encourages active collaboration between home and school.
Key features of the annual review process include:
- Advance notice and clear documentation provided prior to the meeting
- Structured contributions from both parents and students
- Multi-disciplinary input, where appropriate
- Review of key areas of learning and development, aligned to EHCP outcomes
- Updated short-term targets and clear next steps
Annual reviews at More House School are usually conducted via Microsoft Teams and are chaired by a member of staff who knows the student well. Following the meeting, a formal report is shared with all relevant parties, and, where applicable, submitted to the local authority.
Review focus areas
The meeting explores five key areas of development, each linked to EHCP outcomes where relevant:
- Communication and Interaction
- Cognition and Learning
- Social, Emotional and Mental Health
- Physical and Sensory Needs
- Independence Skills
This structured approach ensures clarity on progress made and areas needing further support.
Post-review actions
Following the meeting:
- A formal review report is compiled and shared with all relevant parties
- Any school-based actions are referred to the appropriate staff members for follow-up
- For EHCP reviews, the report is submitted to the local authority, who will then confirm whether the plan will be maintained or amended. Amendments are typically considered only during key transition points (e.g. Year 6, 11, 13) or when there is significant new information, such as a diagnosis or a request for a change in placement
