Occupational Therapy

The More House School Occupational Therapy team delivers therapy on-site using the school’s bespoke Occupational Therapy facilities. It is integrated into the classroom, particularly in the Junior Years, to help pupils grow, learn, have fun, socialise and play. We aim to empower pupils to develop, thrive and reach their full potential.

The therapeutic garden is a new welcoming and inclusive space at More House School, intended to support pupils to develop their skills in mindfulness, self-regulation, and executive functioning. The garden is maintained by pupils working alongside our specialist Occupational Therapists and grounds team, enabling students to grow in independence, resilience, and confidence.

Occupational Therapists provide indirect support to pupils through:

  • Observing and supporting specific functional difficulties in class
  • Assisting carryover of self-regulation strategies
  • Assessing for and advising on posture, handwriting grips, and scissor and ruler strategies or adaptations
  • Assessing and observing self-regulation, coordination and planning skills within the learning context
  • Facilitating Food Explorers groups for selected pupils who eat a limited range of food or who struggle at mealtimes

Occupational Therapists provide direct support to pupils to support their confidence and development in the following areas:

  • Fine motor skills, including handwriting
  • Gross motor skills
  • Sensory processing
  • Visual perceptual skills
  • Self-regulation
  • Planning and organisation
  • Executive function skills
  • Life skills
