Our Specialist Approch

Literacy and Numeracy Support

Literacy

Targeted Literacy tuition aims to identify and support gaps in Literacy knowledge.  We support the development of Literacy for students who face difficulties in phonological skills and other areas of executive functioning due to dyslexia and co-occurring difficulties. We aim to provide strategies that students can transfer across areas of their learning. A comprehensive tracking system supports the development of:

  • Phonological Awareness
  • Reading Accuracy and Fluency
  • Reading Comprehension
  • Spelling
  • Writing Skills
  • Supporting at home

We use a small-step, achievable, memorable and multi-sensory approach, providing the repetition and reinforcement that enables progress to be made and confidence to be built. Assistive technology, including computer reading software and dictation software, is used to foster independence.

Numeracy

Targeted, small-group numeracy tuition is provided for identified pupils. It aims to provide strategies for pupils and support boys with:

  • Developing Mathematical vocabulary
  • Explicit and systematic teaching of Numeracy skills which underpin Mathematical concepts
  • Building the confidence to manipulate numbers and understand numerical relationships
  • Applying Mathematical knowledge to real-life situations
