Admissions

Welcome to Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering More House School for your son. The Admissions Team is here to support and guide you through the process.

Our specialist provision

More House School is a specialist independent boarding and day school for pupils in Years 4–13. We are inclusive in our ethos, with class sizes of up to 14 students, and teaching adapted to meet the needs of cognitively able boys with specific and language-related learning challenges, including Dyslexia and Developmental Language Disorder (DLD).

The school offers a broad range of National Curriculum subjects, including GCSEs, BTECs and A-Levels. Central to our inclusive provision is the Learning Development Centre (LDC), staffed by 22 Therapists and Therapy Assistants, and specialist Tutors, who provide pupils with daily access to therapeutic support. This includes Speech and Language Therapy, Occupational Therapy, and specialist Literacy and Numeracy support.

Applying to More House School

Our admissions process is detailed and comprehensive, as we must be certain that we can offer the best possible learning environment before offering a place.

It is not necessary for pupils to have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to apply to More House School. The funding mechanism could be via the Local Education Authority (LEA), through self-funding by families, or service or MOD funding or means-tested bursary support is also offered to prospective and current families (see Fees page). We may consider applicants from outside of the UK if the child has a British passport or the necessary VISA documentation.

Entry routes:

  • The main entry point to the school is in September for Years 4-6, with a larger intake in Year 7. We have occasional places in Years 8 and 9, but we do not accept applications into Years 10 and 11.
  • If you are considering the More House as a post-16 option, we have a small number of places in Year 12 (Lower Sixth) for external applicants, but we do not accept applications for Year 13 (Upper Sixth).
  • We will consider mid-year enrolment if a space becomes available.

Boarding and day places:

Boys may join the school either as day students or as boarders. Places within our exceptional boarding provision are available to boys in Years 6 and above. We offer full (termly) and weekly boarding options. We also offer part-time boarding, as a three-night package, subject to availability.

  • Part-time boarding places are subject to the availability of places, and priority is given to full and weekly boarders. Please contact Admissions to discuss further: [email protected] 01252 792303 (option 4).
  • Current parents interested in part-time boarding should contact the Head of Residential to find out more.

Visiting More House School

We process a large volume of applications and, as such, we do not offer individual tours at the start of the Admissions Process. We recommend that, after carefully reviewing the information on our school website, prospective families attend one of our Open Mornings offered in September and March every year.

Please note:
We can only accept and process applications in the academic year before a pupil is due to join More House School.  As such, we open Registration for the following year’s enrolment in June and, in order to be fair and transparent, we process applications in the date order received.
