School Life

Co-Curriculum

At More House School, our inspiring co-curricular programme covers clubs, trips, enrichment activities, and charitable events. It is an integral part of our educational offer, designed to complement and enrich the academic and pastoral experience of every pupil. It helps our pupils in every age group to develop curiosity, independence, resilience, and a strong sense of belonging. We believe that what happens outside the classroom is just as important as what happens within it.

Rooted in our pastoral values and inclusive ethos, the co-curriculum offers opportunities for all pupils, regardless of ability or background, to explore their interests, discover new talents, and build the confidence to thrive. Whether through academic extension, creative exploration, or outdoor adventure, the co-curricular life at More House supports the growth of the whole person.

Clubs

Our afterschool clubs programme is a vibrant and essential part of life at More House. It provides pupils with meaningful opportunities to develop new interests, broaden their horizons, and deepen their engagement with the world around them. Clubs run Monday to Thursday and are open to all pupils, with activities catering to a wide range of abilities, passions, and learning styles. There are a variety of clubs aimed at younger pupils in Years 4 to 8, and some that are offered with senior pupils in mind and are open to those in Year 9 through to Upper Sixth (Year 13). Our club offerings change each term to reflect pupil interests, staff expertise and seasonal availability.

Afterschool clubs are rooted in three key pillars:

Junior pupils using computers at More House School

Intellectual opportunities

These clubs aim to stretch students’ thinking, support academic achievement, and cultivate curiosity beyond the classroom. Whether reinforcing key subjects or encouraging new lines of inquiry, our intellectual activities build critical thinking, independence, and confidence.

Examples include chess, board games, creative writing, coding, current affairs discussion group (debate club and deep dive), homework club (prep) and subject-specific revision sessions.

Physical opportunities

Physical clubs promote fitness, health, and wellbeing while encouraging teamwork, resilience, and personal discipline. From competitive sports to recreational activities, pupils are given the chance to build physical confidence and enjoy the benefits of active participation.

A few examples of the physical opportunities available are cricket, judo and karate, fitness and conditioning clubs, swimming, golf (off-site), tennis (off-site), and the ever-popular manhunt club.

Cultural opportunities

Cultural clubs invite students to explore creative expression, performance, identity, and appreciation of the arts. These activities develop communication, empathy, and a richer understanding of the world through music, drama, visual arts, and food culture.

Examples include baking club, art and design, drama club, film appreciation, a variety of music bands, ensembles and choirs, and LAMDA (speech and drama tuition).

Club access and options

  • On-site free clubs are available to all and form the foundation of our weekly co-curricular life.
  • On-site paid clubs include specialist tuition and materials, such as Karate, Judo, and Baking Club.
  • Off-site paid clubs allow boys to access facilities and coaching in sports like Golf and Tennis.
  • LAMDA is now an established and growing feature of our co-curricular provision, with More House School recognised as a registered centre. Pupils are supported in developing public speaking, acting, and communication skills through accredited qualifications.

Current parents can also find more specific information, including how to book clubs, within the Parent Information section of the website.

Trips

Our trips are designed to spark curiosity, enhance classroom learning, and broaden horizons. Pupils across the year groups benefit from a wide range of day and residential experiences that support both personal and academic development.

Day trips & Flexi Fridays

Every second Friday, our whole school steps away from the normal timetable and takes part in a Flexi Friday, a bespoke programme of subject-based enrichment or off-site learning. This provides a perfect window for day trips to museums, exhibitions, historical sites, or subject workshops, bringing learning to life and offering immersive experiences beyond the classroom.

Residential trips & Activity Week

Each summer term, our annual Activity Week sees most year groups embark on residential trips—ranging from outdoor adventure camps in the UK to cultural tours abroad. These experiences foster independence, teamwork, and friendship in a memorable and safe environment.

Departmental tours

Our subject departments run regular residential tours throughout the year. These have included the 2025 Humanities trips to Italy, Music tours to Germany and New York, Visual Arts and Technology trips to France, Germany and Spain, Performing Arts tours at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe, and Sports tours, both domestic and international. These trips are planned in rotation to ensure pupils can access a range of experiences during their time at More House. Each one offers a unique cultural experience and the chance to explore the world—often creating once-in-a-lifetime memories that stay with pupils long after they return home.

Expeditions

More House offers ambitious expedition opportunities that challenge and inspire. These include:

  • Duke of Edinburgh’s Award at Bronze and Silver levels, where pupils develop resilience, service, and outdoor skills.
  • World Challenge Expeditions every two years for senior pupils. These self-funded expeditions involve fundraising, team planning, and travel, developing leadership, independence, and a global perspective. Past destinations include Nepal, Eswatini, and Tanzania in 2025. Mozambique is currently being considered for a future expedition.

Academic enrichment

Our academic enrichment offering reinforces the school’s commitment to intellectual curiosity and excellence. Beyond lessons, we provide a rich variety of opportunities to stretch, challenge, and inspire our pupils. These include:

  • Guest speakers in assemblies and themed events.
  • House and department competitions, including in Science, English, Maths, and Humanities.
  • Our annual Academic Winter Challenge, aimed at our most ambitious learners.
  • Workshops and masterclasses from visiting experts.
  • Participation in external competitions, such as SATRO.
  • A broad range of after-school academic support and revision clubs, especially for pupils preparing for exams.

Charitable events and initiatives

Charitable work plays a key role in the development of empathy, social responsibility, and community engagement at More House. Through school-wide initiatives, pupils in every year group are encouraged to consider the needs of others and to take meaningful action.

A major highlight of the year is our Annual Sponsored Walk, a community-wide event. Each year our School Council and Prefects help to select the charity or cause they wish to support, with recent efforts raising funds for both local and international organisations. The day itself is full of colour and camaraderie, as the entire school dons themed costumes and walks a route through the local area, offering encouragement and plenty of cheer along the way.  It’s a joyful celebration of school spirit, shared purpose, and the positive impact our pupils can make together.

Throughout the year, pupils also take part in other charitable projects, including fundraising events, awareness campaigns, and collection drives, building a culture of generosity and civic responsibility. One particularly successful initiative is our school’s food bank which is facilitated by More House pupils and works in partnership with Farnham Foodbank to provide much-needed supplies to those who need them most in the local area.
