When does school start and finish?
Morning drop-off: Day pupils may arrive at school any time between 8.10am and 8.30am. Pupils should not be dropped off at school before 8.10am as there are no staff on duty this early. All pupils should be at their form room to register by 8.30am.
Afternoon pick-up: On Mondays-Thursdays, Years 4-8 will be released from form time at 4.15pm, and Years 9 and above will be released at 4.20pm. On Fridays, there is a staggered release from form time following registration:
- Years 4, 5 & 6 – 4pm
- Years 7 & 8 – 4.10pm
- Year 9 & 10 – 4.15pm
- Year 11 & Sixth Form – 4.20pm
Find more information on the school day here.
What happens at morning drop-off?
Pupils may arrive at school any time between 8.10am and 8.30am. Please note there is no staff supervision of day-pupils before 8.10am. By 8.30am, pupils should be at their form room. Pupils may arrive at either the main reception carpark (located at the top of Moons Hill), or at the lower entrance gravel carpark, accessing the campus through the entrance opposite Kennel Lane.
Sixth Formers who are not driving themselves should be dropped off either in the main reception or lower carparks and should not be dropped-off via Crosslanes’ driveway. Sixth Form drivers may park their vehicles in Crosslanes’ driveway and carpark (off Hamlash Lane).
Any pupil arriving after 8.35am must be dropped-off at the main reception carpark and must sign-in at the front-desk so that we can be certain of their safe arrival and register their attendance.
Does the school provide transportation to and from school?
More House School provides a daily coach service to and from Farnham Train Station in the mornings and afternoons. Before school, the coach picks up from the station at 8:30am and brings pupils straight to school to arrive before the end of morning registration. In the afternoon, pupils register with their Form Tutors before making their way directly to the top car park to board the return coach, which departs promptly at 4:30pm. The coach travels exclusively between Farnham Train Station and More House School; there are no additional stops for pupils along the way
Spaces on the coach are limited, so parents must apply to book a place for their son. Priority is given to pupils who travel by train, with any remaining places allocated to those living in or close to Farnham on a first-come, first-served basis. If the coach is full, pupils can be added to a waiting list, and parents will be notified if a space becomes available. A daily charge, invoiced in advance, applies for this service and is the same, irrespective of whether a pupil travels one way or on a return basis.
Transport by minibus or coach is available for weekly boarders who wish to use the train to school on a Monday morning and/or Friday afternoon; this service is free of charge.
An after-school club minibus runs to Farnham Train Station at 5:30pm from Monday to Thursday to enable students who normally use the coach to take part in extra-curricular activities. Spaces are allocated in the same way as above, and there is no charge to coach users for this additional transport.
Parents should contact the School Office to book or enquire about school transport.
Is there a Tuck Shop at school?
The Tuck Shop at More House School is run by staff, with the support of Sixth Formers, and currently operates on select days for each year group.
Pupils are welcome to bring up to £2 on their allocated Tuck Shop day to purchase a variety of sweet and savoury snacks and drinks from the selection available.
The Tuck Shop also serves as a hub for student-led charitable initiatives, including bake sales and the popular Year 7 Shake Shack, where pupils create made-to-order milkshakes to raise money for good causes.
What options are there at lunch time?
There is always a wide selection of food at lunchtime, provided by the More House catering team. Everyday there will be a vegetarian option, a cooked main meal, plus pasta and jacket potato options. There is also a varied salad bar and hot and cold puddings. Allergies are taken very seriously at More House School. If your child has an allergy or food intolerance, please let their Form Tutor know. We are experienced in catering for many different diets and our trained teams will provide them with an alternative meal, ensuring their dietary needs are met. Pupils are welcome to bring in a packed lunch to school if they would prefer. Remember – we are a nut-free school. This applies to any food prepared on site, and any meals or snacks brought in by pupils and visitors.
Find more information on catering and menus here.
What happens at afternoon pick-up?
On Mondays to Thursdays inclusive:
- Years 4-8 will be released from their classrooms at 4.15pm
- Years 9 and above will be released from their classrooms at 4.20pm
On Fridays, we operate a staggered collection-time system in order to reduce traffic problems. Pupils may be collected at the following times:
- Years 4, 5 & 6 – 4pm (following afternoon registration)
- Years 7 & 8 – 4.10pm
- Year 9 & 10 – 4.15pm
- Year 11 & Sixth Form – 4.20pm
Pupils eligible for the earlier collection time but sharing transport with a pupil who is to be collected at 4.20pm, must remain with their Form Tutors until 4.20pm and then leave at the later time to meet their transport.
How do I book afterschool clubs?
Our after-school activities take place from 4.30pm-5.30pm Monday – Thursday. It is essential that all pupils remaining onsite after school are signed up for an activity—this includes independent study for our Sixth Formers. This policy ensures that we can account for all pupils on campus in case of an emergency.
More House parents can book clubs for their son via the online booking system. This is accessed by logging into the Parent Portal and clicking the ‘Book Activities’ button. Booking opens at the start of each term for parents to select clubs for the term ahead. All places are allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Only clubs with available spaces will be bookable. Information about paid clubs, including costs, timings, and any required equipment, will be sent directly to parents.
When will I receive my son’s school reports?
All parents and pupils will receive a half-termly progress report on the final day of each half-term. Every pupil will also have a full school annual report. These reports are published throughout the Trinity term, depending on the pupils’ year group.
Where can I find further support around safeguarding?
More information, resources and support for parents and carers can be found within the Safeguarding section of the website.
What are the rules around mobile phones?
Pupils in Years 4-11 inclusive are not permitted to use their mobile telephone during the school day. If it has to be brought into school, for example because it is needed for safety during the commute, then between 8.30am and 4.20pm the telephone must be switched off at all times and must remain in the care of staff. Pupils found with a mobile telephone on their person during the school day may expect not to be permitted to bring it onto the school campus in the future.
Sixth Form students are permitted to use their mobile telephones outside of lesson-time.
Parents are specifically requested to support their sons to adhere to these rules, and especially not to attempt to contact their sons on their mobile devices during school hours, including through any form of messaging.
The Mobile Phone Policy can be found on the Policies page.
Where can I check for lost property?
Any named clothing, water bottles, etc. found around the school site are usually returned to Main Reception and placed in the Lost Property box.
Unlabelled items are placed in baskets outside the laundry, where pupils can check for missing belongings. Unnamed items are kept for a period of time but, ultimately, if unclaimed, they will be donated to the Second-hand Uniform Shed.
We strongly encourage parents and pupils to ensure that all clothing and frequently used items—such as pencil cases, water bottles, and accessories—are clearly named.
What are the different funding routes for More House?
It is not necessary for pupils to have an Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) to apply to More House School. The funding mechanism could be via:
- Local Authority (LA)
- Self-funding by families
- Service or MoD funding
- Means-tested bursary support (if appropriate)
Find out more here: Fees
Are there any bursaries available?
Yes. At More House School, we are committed to widening access to an exceptional education while supporting every family in our community.
- Means-tested bursaries: can offer partial assistance for prospective families.
- Hardship support: we also recognise that circumstances can change, and hardship support is available to ensure continuity and stability for current pupils.
Applications are reviewed on a termly basis and each one is considered with care, sensitivity, and discretion, enabling each boy to thrive and flourish within our inclusive, aspirational community.
