World Challenge Expedition 2025

Earlier this year, a group of More House pupils and staff embarked on a once in a lifetime expedition to Tanzania in partnership with World Challenge! The group split in 2 and took part in a number of activities engaging with local communities. They also had a few adventures further afield.

2 More House pupils share their experience of the trip in the below article. Thank you, Charlie and Harry.

Tanzania 2025

On the first day we left school to go to Heathrow; from there we boarded a flight to Mount Kilmagro then to Kigali for a seven hour layover, then we flew to Dar es Salaam as seen below in the photograph:

Upon arrival we left the airport and went by minibus for a five hour drive through Dar es Salaam rush-hour traffic, which was an interesting experience to see how people live in the city.  We eventually arrived at our accommodation, had dinner, went to the beach, and day two was already over in a flash. As seen in this photograph, it shows the beach that we were at:

A peaceful sandy beach with gentle waves, a strip of seaweed near the shore, and a clear sky with scattered clouds over the horizon.

The next few days we were doing our community initiative, of which we were building the foundations of a library for a school.

A person stands on the wooden roof frame of a partially constructed house with white walls and unfinished masonry, surrounded by scattered building materials and clouds in the sky above.

Working at the school was great fun as we met the kids and played games with them. After finishing the initiative, we donated 100 books to the school for their library. In this photograph it shows the playground that the children use:

A grassy garden with scattered trees, a row of tyres partially buried in the ground, metal playground equipment, and a large red gate in the background. Two people are standing near the gate and foliage surrounds the area.

After the initiative, we went to the Urlgru mountain range and some people climbed up to the top of Bondwa Peak whilst others went down into a village nearby. The view from the top of the mountain was spectacular.

In the village, the others made lunch from local products and tried to communicate with the locals (a “slight” language barrier).

A group of people sit cross-legged on a white tarpaulin outdoors, sharing a meal from communal plates placed in the centre. Some wear casual clothes while others have colourful headwraps. The ground is earthy and rocky.

They also did clay making, they also bought bowls made by the locals.

A young man kneels and carves a wooden object outdoors, while three women and another man watch. The women sit on the ground with bags and containers, overlooking a scenic, mountainous landscape in the background.

After getting some mountain air we headed back down into a minibus and headed to the SAFARI PARK. We arrived there, camped out and woke up at 5:30am the next day to go on the Safari!

Collage of African wildlife: a giraffe eating from a tree, two zebras standing in grassland, an elephant walking, a monkey sitting in dry grass, and a lion lying low in the grassland.

On the last day we went on a boat trip to an island and we had a sea food platter and played pool and paddled in the sea.

A group of people wearing orange life jackets sit closely together on a covered boat under a blue tarpaulin roof, with water and sky visible in the background. Some smile at the camera whilst others look relaxed or thoughtful.

After an amazing trip of a life time, all good things had to come to an end. We drove to the airport, got on a flight and, 25 hours later, we landed and met our parents after an amazing 16 days away.
