A group of More House pupils and staff ventured to Pila, Italy in January for the annual ski trip! Read all about their experience below and vide the photos here: Ski Trip 2026
Day 1 – Departure and Ferry Crossing
The trip began with all pupils and staff meeting at the MHS car park, full of excitement for the week ahead—though slightly less enthusiastic about the overnight coach journey!
Our first major stop was Dover, where we boarded the ferry to Calais. Pupils enjoyed exploring the ship, visiting the duty-free shops, grabbing food from the restaurants, and even trying the arcade.
Once in Calais, we returned to the coach, watched an F1 film, and settled down for some sleep as we continued across France.
Day 2 – Arrival in Italy
We had breakfast on the road at a service station before travelling through the impressive Mont Blanc Tunnel—one of the longest road tunnels in the world and a first-time experience for most pupils.
By mid-morning, we arrived in Aosta for ski and boot fitting before heading to Hotel Des Roses for lunch and an afternoon of rest and organisation, getting kit and clothes ready for the week ahead.
The evening was spent relaxing in the hotel, with pupils enjoying some gaming and table football.
Day 3 – First Day on the Slopes
Our first day of skiing began with bright, cold weather. Pupils were placed into their ski groups and were eager to get started.
The gondola ride from Aosta to Pila is always a highlight—an 8–10 minute journey offering stunning views over the valley and town below.
After a full day on the slopes, our evening activity was a visit to a local pizza restaurant.
Day 4 – Skiing & Ice Skating
Another excellent day of skiing, with pupils making great progress in their groups and enjoying the good conditions.
In the evening, we had exclusive use of an ice rink, which gave everyone plenty of space to skate confidently. Mr Webb showcased his skating experience—much to the pupils’ amusement—and was soon being encouraged to skate even faster!
Day 5 – Cold Weather & Bowling Night
The temperature dropped further, but the skiing remained fantastic. Some pupils took the opportunity to travel to the top of the mountain to enjoy the spectacular viewpoint.
Our evening activity was bowling, followed by time in the arcades, which proved extremely popular.
Day 6 – Getting Snowier & Awards Evening
The cold continued to build, ready for snow later in the week. Light snowfall arrived during the day, adding to the excitement.
In the evening, we visited a huge local supermarket before returning to the hotel for Presentation Evening and Awards, celebrating progress, effort, and memorable moments from the week.
Day 7 – Heavy Snowfall & Departure
Our final ski day brought lots of fresh snow. Pupils enjoyed an afternoon hot chocolate before returning to the hotel to pack, enjoy dinner, and load the coach.
We began our overnight journey home, with “Mission Impossible” as the evening’s film entertainment.
Day 8 – Return to England
We caught an early-morning ferry back to England, making excellent time and arriving at school over two hours early. Pupils were collected by their parents—tired, happy, and ready for their own beds.
