School Life

Sixth Form – Years 12 & 13

Our Sixth Form provision aims to provide the best all-round education possible in preparation for happiness and success in adult life. More House holds an international reputation for excellence in supporting pupils who are clever, but who experience challenges in their education resulting from weakness in their language development, literacy, or other Specific Learning Difficulties. The school is renowned for providing a mainstream, academic curriculum, with specialist expertise in the best way to deliver learning and support for our students, so that they gain confidence and belief in themselves, and achieve exceptional success in public examinations and social development.

Joining the More House Sixth Form

The More House Sixth Form is a very popular and well-supported next step for our current Year 11 pupils, and many choose to continue their post-16 education here.

We also welcome applications from pupils currently attending other schools. A number of Sixth Form places are available for external applicants to join in Year 12 (Lower Sixth), either as day pupils or boarders. Please note: we do not accept external applications into Year 13 (Upper Sixth).

The right pathway for you

There are different routes available within our Sixth Form:

Two-year route:
The majority of students will spend the customary two years in the Sixth Form, completing A-Level or equivalent Level 3 BTEC qualifications, or a hybrid mix of both types of course. Most students will study three academic qualification courses at a time, although some may pursue four A-Levels or equivalent.

For some students, entry directly to A-Level or equivalent Level 3 courses may not be appropriate. We also offer a Foundation Programme within the Sixth Form, affording opportunities for continuing GCSE-equivalent Level 2 qualifications and support to retake GCSE English or Mathematics to secure Grade 4 or higher.

Three-year route (incorporating a Foundation Year):
Some students may be with us for three years, spending the first year on a Foundation programme in order to strengthen their GCSE-equivalent Level 2 qualifications portfolio, before progressing to their two-year Level 3 courses.

Foundation year:
Some students may spend a single year in our Sixth Form in order to secure their Level 2 qualifications before progressing to further study elsewhere.

Boarding opportunities:
Many students choose to join our thriving boarding community in the Sixth Form, which further encourages the development of skills for independent and communal living, preparing them for successful transition to university halls-of-residence, sharing flats, and moving out of home. Our dedicated boarding staff team supports students to build their social confidence and to make the most of their time at school, engaging in extra-curricular, social activities and building friendships which last for decades.

Our class-sizes in the Sixth Form are typically very small, and often fewer than ten students. Teachers are trained in planning and delivering learning opportunities that play to the strengths of our students, building their independence as learners and preparing them for their next steps. The school has a large team of specialist experts, including qualified Literacy Tutors, Speech and Language Therapists and Occupational Therapists who collaborate with teachers and support students in their studies.  To learn more about our bespoke approach to teaching and learning, visit the Our Specialist Approach page.

Sixth Form pupils benefit from the full range of our school’s excellent facilities, including sports hall and playing fields, excellent gym facilities, spinning room, swimming pool, Science laboratories, Performing Arts centre, Music School, Engineering and Technology centre, Computer-Aided Design suite, and Media, Art and Photography studios.

Growing as a person

Sixth Form education must never be just about academic qualifications. This is a time when our students grow as individuals, developing a much wider set of skills which enables them to design and pursue ambitious futures.

More House Sixth Formers are ambassadors for the school community and are encouraged to take up leadership roles, such as Prefect, Head of House, and Head Boy, and to participate fully in the co-curricular programme.

A wealth of trips and co-curricular opportunities broaden students’ experience and confidence, including domestic and international residential excursions, afterschool clubs, sports, fundraising, music ensembles, and much more.

There are many opportunities for pupils to participate in day trips that enrich specific areas of learning—such as attending live theatre performances to support Performing Arts topics, taking part in the prestigious SATRO problem-solving competitions, or visiting museums and galleries to enhance their understanding of history and the arts. In 2025, Sixth Form Visual Arts students were extremely fortunate to be invited on a private tour of the ARRI camera facility in London, where they explored the studio, gained hands-on experience with professional camera equipment, and spent time on their cutting-edge digital ‘virtual’ stage. Guest speakers and visiting professionals also contribute to academic life, offering pupils invaluable insight and real-world experience.

Outcomes

We are extremely proud of our students’ academic successes, where they frequently beat national expectations for A-Level, GCSE and equivalent results. Many of our Sixth Formers progress to university degree study in a vast range of subject disciplines, and some progress to post-eighteen apprenticeship programmes, further education courses, or directly into employment. Some More House pupils also go on to pursue post-graduate degrees and research opportunities in the sciences and wider.

Through our Futures Department, we have a comprehensive programme for progression, including a dedicated UCAS (universities application service) and Transition Advisor and a Careers Advisor, who work closely with pupils through the Senior Years.  Sixth Form is a time when our students grow as individuals, developing a wide set of skills which enables them to design and pursue ambitious futures. Our provision delivers a truly exciting and inspiring breadth of opportunities for our students to make the most of their time here, building skills and understanding which will give them the edge in the worlds of university study, apprenticeships, employment, community-engagement and independent living.

Crosslanes – The Sixth Form Centre

The More House Sixth Form is set within the school’s stunning, near 30-acre campus on the cusp of the Surrey Hills Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

Whilst Sixth Form students make full use of the campus’ facilities and classrooms, they also benefit from a dedicated Sixth Form Centre. Crosslanes comprises recreational common rooms, a dedicated garden, independent-study suites, classrooms and learning-support areas.

Sixth Formers are welcome to spend time in Crosslanes during free periods to conduct self-directed study, meet with staff, or to spend time with friends. Pupils in the Sixth Form raised funds to purchase a set of goalposts for the Crosslanes back garden, which have proven very popular since!
