Year 8 had the fabulous Tom Vaughan, author of Hercules, visiting last Flexi Friday 16th January. After introducing himself and his books, in particular his Hercules series, he led a talk all about Greek mythology and was astounded by the knowledge of some of our pupils. Talking about his own inspirations for writing he then led each group in a ‘What If’ creative writing workshop where everyone was a storyteller.
‘I learnt it was easier to write a story than you think. There shouldn’t be all this pressure. You just have to start with one thought, and from one thought the story grows.’
‘It was fun because you could make your story as goofy as you wanted’
‘It was good because he opened my eyes into a world of imagination’
‘the Greek God guy!’
Tom’s take on the day: “I had such a fantastic time doing my creative writing workshop with the Year 8s, getting them to come up with their own ‘What If’ ideas to kickstart a story. I was blown away by their creativity. Special shout out to my two favourite ideas from the day: ‘What if the sky is a screen?’ and ‘What if my best friend is a spy’.”
Thanks so much Tom – look forward to welcoming you again in the future!
