More House students earn rare critical acclaim at Edinburgh Fringe

Students from More House School are celebrating exceptional success at the 2026 Edinburgh Festival Fringe after their production of Rockbeth received widespread praise from professional theatre critics.

Performed by More The Merrier, the school’s performing arts company, Rockbeth reimagined Shakespeare’s Macbeth through a soundtrack of classic rock music. Reviewers praised the production’s energy, musicianship and storytelling, with one critic describing it as an “outstanding piece of youth theatre”.

What makes this achievement particularly noteworthy is that such recognition is rare for a school production at the Edinburgh Fringe. Among more than 4,000 shows at the festival, Rockbeth was repeatedly singled out for praise, with critics highlighting both the talent of the boys on stage and the expertise of the drama team behind the production.

Reviewers commended the students’ acting, singing and stage presence, while the live band was recognised as a major strength of the show. Rather than being praised simply as a successful school production, Rockbeth was recognised as high-quality theatre in its own right, reflecting the hard work, creativity and commitment that brought the production to life.
