Junior Sport Focus – Gymnastics

During the Lent term in PE, the Juniors in Years 4, 5 and 6 have taken part in a wide range of sports, including Rugby and Hockey, developing key skills such as teamwork, communication and coordination. Alongside these more familiar sports, the pupils have also enjoyed exploring one of the more unusual activities on the curriculum: Gymnastics.

Throughout the Gymnastics unit, the Juniors have shown great enthusiasm and determination as they practised a variety of rolling movements, including forward rolls, backward rolls, teddy bear rolls and pencil rolls. They have also focused on developing balance and body control, experimenting with different points of contact and learning how to hold strong, stable positions.

A particular highlight has been the creation of their own gymnastics’ routines. Pupils have worked both independently and with others to link movements together smoothly, showing creativity, confidence and respect for one another when performing in front of the class at the end of each session.

The Juniors have thoroughly enjoyed learning new skills that can be applied beyond PE lessons, such as balance, coordination and spatial awareness. We look forward to continuing our work with them next term and are excited to see their confidence and abilities continue to grow as they progress.
