Green Goals in Action

More House School is taking meaningful steps toward becoming a greener, more environmentally conscious learning environment, both indoors and out. Nationally celebrated for its inclusive educational approach, the school is also developing thoughtful sustainability initiatives across its estate.

Opening in September 2025, the new solar-powered St Matthew’s building marks a major milestone. This single-storey, multi-purpose space offers flexible teaching and learning areas for all year groups. 98% of demolition materials were expertly recycled, setting a new benchmark for responsible development on site.

Solar panels already generate energy across several buildings, and plans are in place to expand capacity significantly. A full transition to LED lighting is also underway, aiming to reduce energy consumption and lower the school’s reliance on the national grid.

Outdoors, More House continues to embrace rewilding. Since 2022, over 1,200 trees have been planted as part of the Queen’s Green Canopy scheme, enhancing biodiversity and creating new habitats across the estate. Pupils actively contribute to environmental projects through clubs and curriculum-based learning.

The school’s beekeeping programme, launched in 2024, supports local ecosystems and provides sustainable ingredients for the Catering team, while offering pupils hands-on experience and vocational skills.

The Catering team also continues to make steady improvements in reducing food waste. This year, they are introducing a food waste tracker, co-run with Holroyd Howe, to monitor and improve recycling efforts, with further initiatives in development.

Looking ahead, More House plans to launch its first dedicated Eco Club in 2025. Led by pupils and supported by staff, the club will champion green initiatives across campus, from energy efficiency to more natural and plant-based solutions.

In a world where environmental responsibility is increasingly vital, More House School is exploring how sustainability can be more deeply embedded into everyday school life.
