Learning Beyond the Label
These easily accessible introductions to SEND (special educational needs and disabilities) support are useful starting points for informing and empowering staff to understand their pupils and provide for their needs more effectively. With an increase in pupils with Dyslexia, Autism and ADHD in many schools, how should the school community adjust? The evidence-base suggests that focusing less on the diagnosis and more on essential cognitive functions will support learning for all.

- The course was great and really good CPD.
- It was a useful part of my continued training into supporting neurodivergent pupils and was timely this year given the range of pupils in my current class.
- I am now much more confident in my understanding of attention and working memory now that I have completed the course.

Using the Class Mapping Tool
This course aims to equip class teachers to use their understanding and knowledge of their pupils to see behaviours as indicators of need, rather than disengagement. The Class Mapping Tool is a ‘one page of A3’ approach to understanding needs and barriers in whole groups, which brings clarity to adaptive teaching. It is a resource built on a robust evidence-base, which has gained much traction in schools due to its low cost and intuitive applications for SEND support. Its advantages for stretching those without diagnoses are also widely commented on. This tool has already been the focus of Psychology undergraduate dissertations at the University of East Anglia and has provided exciting results in academic research so far. More is currently in progress.
Why choose this course? Users have said…
- It really thinks about all the pupils in my class, and not just those that might require more focused support.
- The colour-coded strategies are helpful and as they form part of the tool – they kept my mind focused.
- I made notes in the boxes too e.g. some pupils were yellow/green for processing in English but not in Maths, so I could look at each pupil in greater depth by subject too.
You can also purchase both courses together as a BUNDLE for £16
Buying both of these courses will serve to clearly set the context for effective ‘Beyond the Label’ SEND support before helping the user to dig deeper into how it is applied in the classroom. These self-paced courses usually take about 3 hours to complete.
