At More House School, Speech and Language Therapy is offered to almost all pupils as communication needs are often closely related to difficulties experienced in Dyslexia, Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) and other associated language-related diagnoses.
Understanding and using language underpins all aspects of learning. We aim to support the pupils to develop language and communication skills, to access the curriculum successfully and to develop their confidence and ability to participate in a variety of academic and social activities.
Our Speech and Language Therapists provide both direct and indirect support to groups of pupils including vocabulary programmes delivered in the classroom, support with scientific language (SLANG) and support in Personal Social Development (PSD) classes.
Speech and Language Therapy is centred around the following areas:
- Attention and listening
- Language processing
- Receptive language
- Expressive language
- Inferential reasoning and higher-level language
- Social communication and pragmatic language
- Friendships and social problem solving
- Self-advocacy
- Articulation
- Executive function skills
