A Special Day of Cricket
At the beginning of August, More House pupils Hugo, Charlie and Lucas enjoyed a very special day at the iconic Kia Oval through the Lord’s Taverners Super 1s cricket programme.
The boys were invited to take part in a podcast hosted by Spencer Matthews for the People’s Postcode Lottery, where they spoke about the work of the Lord’s Taverners and the benefits that cricket can bring to disabled and neurodiverse young people.
During the day, they took part in warm-up activities and had the opportunity to play cricket with Spencer Matthews, who spent time getting to know the boys and helping them feel at ease. They also watched elite players training alongside them, making the experience even more memorable.
One of the highlights of the day came when a parent-versus-children cricket match was organised, giving several parents the rare opportunity to step onto the famous Oval pitch and play alongside their sons.
Writing to the school, Hugo’s mother, Natalie White, described the occasion as a “special opportunity” and said the boys had a “fantastic time”. She reflected on the confidence, friendships and sense of belonging that cricket can provide, and shared how much the experience meant to the boys and their families.
