Literacy difficulties may be experienced by students who have specific learning difficulties including Dyslexia, Autistic Spectrum Disorder and Developmental Language Disorder. Targeted Literacy tuition is offered within the Learning Development Centre aiming to identify gaps in literacy knowledge and provide strategies that students may fit into a larger framework. Tuition is delivered within small groups by a team of ten Literacy tutors who are trained at SpLD Level 5 or above and bring a huge range of expertise and experience to the department.

A comprehensive tracking system supports the development of:

• Writing
• Phonology

Tuition takes a small-step, achievable, memorable and multisensory approach. This provides the repetition and reinforcement that enables progress to be made and confidence to be built. Assistive technology, including computer reading software and dictation software, is used to foster independence as students progress through the senior school.
