SPOTLIGHT SEMINARS

Spotlight Sessions 2024-2025

Our Spotlight programme for the upcoming academic year will focus on subject and stage specific approaches when supporting pupils with SEND.

Details will follow but for now, please save these dates and join us in person where relevant if you can!

Courses are offered free of charge as part of the school's charitable initiatives.

Please note these sessions are specifically designed for professionals working with children and young people.

Mrs Jones likes flowers. What does this sentence make you think about? All the assumptions, ideas and meanings that we might come up with lie at the heart of inferential reasoning. SEND pupils may understand the initial information they are given but struggle to use it as a foundation for further thinking. In this session, we will look at how to help SEND pupils develop their ability to use inferential skills more effectively.

Giving instructions, asking questions and interacting with pupils verbally, whether in lessons or unstructured time, is a surprisingly complex communication process. SEND pupils may give the impression that they understand when they do not. In this session we will consider how to adapt our verbal delivery and become increasingly aware of the limited language skills of some pupils.

Power points, worksheets and textbooks can be the point at which understanding breaks down for SEND pupils. In this session we will examine the pitfalls of using existing teaching materials and consider principles to help us adapt and develop whole-class resources.

We look forward to seeing you at some point in the coming year. Do pass on the contact details of any colleagues or other professionals in education who would also like to be involved.

Our Spotlight sessions are fully accredited by the CPD Standards Office
