Homework
At More House School, pupils’ self-confidence and independence are fostered. The tackling of independent study activities away from the classroom plays a powerful role in realising such autonomy within the academic sphere. It also prepares pupils for the assessment demands of their accredited courses at GCSE, A Level and the equivalent BTEC qualifications, and affords opportunities for revision of work and the practice of skills.
Pupils can be anxious about homework, and More House School recognises a duty to support its pupils to recognise their potential and to grow in self-belief. Assessment informs teachers’ planning and monitoring, as well as enabling pupils to become reflective learners, closing the gap between what they can currently do and what we believe they are capable of achieving.
Homework is set by subject teachers and recorded by pupils in their pupil diaries on a daily basis. Mentors set a fortnightly Social and Emotional target which enables pupils to have a specific focus within the home environment, relevant to them.
