Alpine Adventure: 2025 Ski Trip to La Thuile
A group of adventurous students from More House School recently embarked on an unforgettable ski trip to La Thuile (pronounced “La Twill”), a ski resort nestled in the Italian Alps. Located in the Aosta Valley, La Thuile is known for its breathtaking slopes and an array of exciting activities. This trip, which ran from 4th – 11th January, turned out to be just as thrilling as it was exhausting!
The journey to La Thuile was a feat in itself. The group set off at 4pm on 4th January, embarking on a lengthy coach ride that took them across southern England and through the night via the ferry from Dover to Calais. With the excitement of crossing international borders, the students made their way into France, then through the famous Mont Blanc tunnel, before finally reaching Italy’s Aosta Valley.
The long coach journey, full of films, games, and some sleep-deprived moments, proved to be an adventure in itself. Although everyone was eager to begin the skiing adventure, they first needed to be fitted for ski gear. Once allocated the correct size helmets, poles, boots and skis, they were ready to hit the slopes the very next day. In the meantime, a trip to the supermarket for snacks and treats followed by an evening of relaxation in the hotel was on the cards.
The skiing itself was a highlight for many. For some, it was an opportunity to dive back into a sport they love, while for others, it was their first time on skis. Divided into groups according to skill level, students were guided by professional ski instructors who were kind, supporting and encouraging, and ensured that everyone had the best experience. Skiing through the picturesque Alps, taking chair lifts, and enjoying delicious mountain-top lunches made every day an exciting new chapter.
But skiing wasn’t the only highlight of the trip. Each evening, after a tiring day on the slopes, a different après-ski activity was planned. On Monday, the group indulged in a delicious pizza night at a local restaurant. Tuesday brought some friendly competition at a ten-pin bowling alley, where one of the teachers stunned everyone by bowling a strike with one hand while using his other to speak to a parent on the phone! Wednesday’s ice-skating session added to the fun, and Thursday ended with awards for all the students for their progress on the slopes, leaving everyone feeling accomplished.
By Friday, after an eventful week and a final ski session, the group reluctantly began their journey home. They retraced their steps through the Mont Blanc tunnel and back across France. A surprise awaited them when they arrived at the ferry port in Calais earlier than expected. Thanks to some swift planning, they managed to catch an earlier ferry, setting sail at 5:20am, ahead of schedule. With breakfast onboard, the group made it back to Dover in good time and re-boarded the coach for the final leg of the trip. They arrived back to school at 8am – very tired but with memories that would last a lifetime.
Although the week away was exhausting, it was an extraordinary experience for everyone involved. Beyond the skiing and the thrill of traveling across Europe, the boys forged new friendships and gained invaluable life experiences.
The 2025 ski trip was more than just a holiday – it was an adventure that will be remembered by all who took part.
