Years 4-7 Open Day September 2024
On 17th September we held our first open day of the academic year, welcoming over 180 visitors to our school. Each family arrived at More House hoping to understand more about our transformative education and how we empower our pupils to become independent learners and ultimately lead aspirational futures.
The first words of welcome came from our inspirational Head Boy, Thom, who spoke a little about his journey through More House and how he has flourished, developed confidence and is motivated for the future. Mr Hetherington then introduced our mission and ethos. He spoke about the unique provision at More House and explained that here we support our pupils to embrace curiosity, discover their strengths, work on their areas of skill weakness and develop in social confidence as a member of a welcoming school community.
During the introduction in Bradbury Heights, we also heard from other members of the staff team about the pastoral and therapeutic support available to pupils, boarding at More House, and some specific information about the Junior Years and their transition into the senior school.
Following this, our guests stepped out into the warm autumn sunshine and were led around school by their expert pupil tour guides. Students from the Junior Years to Sixth Form guided small groups though site, providing insight into life and learning at More House, our facilities and grounds, and answered any specific questions our visitors had.
There were also plenty of opportunities for those considering boarding to view the boarding houses and understand how the exceptional residential provision at More House can have such a positive impact on the lives of our pupils.
Thank you to everyone involved in making this such a welcoming and memorable day.
Since the event, we have received some wonderful visitor feedback about our school and the pupils who confidently and proudly guided them around our school:
“I’ve been to many school open events having three children and can confidently say this was an excellent open morning”
“Please pass on my thanks to the two delightful boys named XXX and XXX (yr8) that showed us around today. They were so lovely and helpful and a credit to the school and their parents. What was really touching, was when XXX told me how awful it was in his secondary school in year 7 and how More House had saved him. He was so grateful to his mum for fighting so hard to get him to More House and he wouldn’t know what he would have done if he hadn’t have got in. Maybe you could pass on to their parents how impressed we all were? I have finally found a school that understands children with SEND and it was a breath of fresh air.”
“I just wanted to say thank you for the opportunity to visit More House School. We found the Open Day very helpful and informative. Thanks especially to our Tour Guides, XXX and XXX, who were very knowledgeable and patient in answering all of our questions. It was also useful to be able to talk to various staff members, to get a real flavour of life at More House.”
“Well organised and presented. Staff and children were all friendly and informative. The school is clearly thriving, we really think our son XXX would be very happy at More House.”
