More House School

Co-Curriculum

Welcome to the co-curriculum at More House

Our enriching co-curricular programme is designed to encourage curiosity, creativity and competition, and promote engagement in new and exciting experiences. By taking part in activities outside the classroom, pupils are empowered to push themselves and take risks, which often lead to the discovery of hidden talents and interests, and growth in social confidence.

At More House, we offer a vast range of engaging activities, trips and clubs for all year groups. Every pupil at More House will access co-curricular opportunities outside of normal timetabled lessons. This could be through our extensive programme of after school clubs, day and residential trips, or other charitable and community engagement endeavours.

Clubs:

Our clubs programme offers a variety of activities for pupils staying after school and is designed around three pillars:

  • Intellectual opportunities
  • Physical opportunities
  • Cultural opportunities

After-school clubs are available on Mondays-Thursdays during term time. There are exciting paid and pre-booked activities that the pupils can sign up to, allocated on a first-come-first-serve basis. There are also many clubs which are free to attend. During exam season there is an expansion of the GCSE and BTEC curriculum support activities available to students in Years Ten and above.

Trips:

We pride ourselves on our extensive programme of day and residential trips. Throughout the academic year, there are multiple opportunities for pupils to explore the local area and wider world.

Activity week:

Every Trinity term we hold Activity Week. The boys have the opportunity to do a range of different activities on site but also have the chance to travel away from home.

In 2024 we visited:

  • Year 4/5 & 6 - Woodmill Activity Centre
  • Year 7 - Grittleton House
  • Year 8 - PGL, Isle of Wight
  • Year 9 - Land and Wave, Dorset
  • Year 10 - PGL Chateau de Grande Romains, France
  • Year 11 and Sixth Form - a variety of day trips and activities

World Challenge:

Every 2 years, a group of More House pupils in Years 9 and above take part in World Challenge Expeditions. World Challenge enables our students to engage in a unique, life-changing experience which engenders independence and empowers them to take on their post-More House lives with confidence.

Together, pupils and staff take part in a variety of fundraising initiatives, training days and planning to prepare for these once in a lifetime experiences.

Over the years, More House has visited Tanzania, Peru, Croatia, Malawi, Nepal and Eswatini on these expeditions. In 2025 we will be venturing to Tanzania!

Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme:

More House pupils also have the opportunity to take part in the Duke of Edinburgh Awards Scheme. Pupils are supported by staff to work towards their Bronze and Silver awards.
