More House School

Registration for the 2025 Adaptive Teaching Conference is now live!

Following the success of the 2024 Adaptive Teaching Conference, More House School (Frensham), and Charterhouse School will be running a second ‘Learning Beyond the Label’ event in 2025!

Join us to hear research from experts in the field of neurodiversity, and explore strategies and approaches to supporting Special Educational Needs in the classroom with school-based practitioners.

Learning Beyond the Label is an event for educational professionals supporting children and young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN). This is a perfect opportunity to hear about current research into neurodiversity and adolescent mental health, and gain insight into the CALM study that is evaluating and challenging diagnostic frameworks for identifying and supporting children with special educational needs.

This year, the keynote speeches will be from researchers in the field of education and neurodiversity:

An update on the CALM research challenging the diagnostic framework for neurodevelopmental differences.
By Professor Joni Holmes, Professor of Psychology at the University of East Anglia and an Affiliated Senior Scientist at the Medical Research Council’s Cognition and Brain Sciences Unit, University of Cambridge, where she led the Centre for Attention Learning and Memory (CALM) and Dr Elizabeth Byrne, lecturer in Psychology at the University of East Anglia.

Regulating Emotions - Strengthening Adolescent Resilience (RE-STAR).
By Professor Jane Hurry, Emeritus Professor of Psychology and a Professorial Research Fellow at University College, London, and Co-Investigator on RE-STAR, a four-year project exploring the role of emotional regulation in depression of secondary aged pupils with features of ASD and/or ADHD.

There will also be a choice of seminars and workshops available throughout the afternoon focusing on strategies, approaches and context-based reflection to enable practitioners to provide support for a range of pupils with different SEN difficulties. The themes of these sessions will be:

  1. Mathematics – Beyond the Label
  2. Executive Functioning – Beyond the Label
  3. Panel discussion – Pastoral roles within schools discussing the implications of the RE-STAR research – joined by Professor Jane Hurry

If you are a SENCO, teacher, TA, LSA, trainee teacher or ECT, join us to explore research and evidence-based strategies and approaches for practitioners supporting whole classes when several pupils are diagnosed with SEN.
